Local Information
Beaches
There are so many to choose from, Rhodes mainly has pebble beaches. There are sandy coves at Pefkos and St Paul's bay only a 10 minutes drive, and a large stretch of sand at Prassonissi which is at the bottom of the island where the 2 oceans meet, this beach is frequented by kite-surfers and windsurfers as it is usually windy. Glystra beach near Lardos is lovely with great sand for children and the water is clear, you definately need a car to get to it though. The closest beaches to the villa are Kalathos and Vilcha, both pebble/shingle and pleasant. Vilcha beach is at the bottom of a very steep hill in a small bay with a few hotels and "Big Blue Watersports" centre where you can ride jet bikes, go on inflatables etc.At any public beach in Rhodes you can hire sun beds at a small cost (normally fixed). If you like snorkelling then Ladiko, Anthony Quinn and Kallithea bays are perfect with there clear blue/green waters and rocks, these are within 20-30 minutes drive, Kallithea being furthest away and it also has and old spa on the site. Falaraki has a lovely long stretch of beach, very fine shingle but is usually busy. If you want to swim but do not fancy the beach, Falaraki has a very large waterpark which is great for any ages. Eating and Drinking
In Kalathos village there are many restaurants/tavernas to choose from serving both Greek, English and European food. Below is "bar on the road", "callestano" and "konstantin". All are fine restaurants the Konstantin is more upmarket and only an few euros more than normal prices but the food is exquisite. Anywhere you go you can find restaurants, even in the small coves, there is always a cafe or a place to get a drink and toilets. Falaraki is a very lively resort for clubs and bars, and some people stay out till early morning, but you can still go and enjoy their many restaurants, they also have a McDonalds near the beach. In Rhodes town you can find Pizza Hut and other small fast food outlets as well as many local restaurants. The Coralli apartments/poolbar and restaurant in Pefkos is especially our favourite. We stayed there on our first visit to Rhodes and the service, food, waiters and atmosphere was superb for the family especially the crepes! (picture left).Activities
Activities you can do are go-carting, swimming at the waterpark, jet-skiing, parasailing, windsurfing, kite-surfing, mini-golf, golf, and there are various rides in Falaraki e.g. huge bungee ball. (see gallery for pictures).below: Falaraki water park - mat races and stingray slides.
